Standing tall for 450 years!
Shri Mahalasa Narayani’s Temple was established in Kumta about 450 years ago.
One archak, who was a Gurav brought the original bronze idol of Shri Mahalasa from Verna (Goa) in an earthen pot and consecrated in the temple.
Apart from the glorious Kuladevata who blesses Her devotees here from a long time, the temple is also famous for its exquisite woodwork and Kavi Kala art work.
For example, Kavi Kala is used to depict Suryamandal, Chandramandal and Dashavatara scenes on the outer walls of the temple using coloured lime and mortar.
The temple is going to witness this year 450 years of its its existence, the highlight being the celebrations culminating with a Sahasra Chandi Mahayaag and Champa Shashti Mahotsava from Manmatha Nama Samvatsare, Margashirsha Maasa, Shukla Paksha Pratipada, i.e., Saturday, December 12, 2015 to Shukla Paksha Shashti on Thursday, December 17, 2015.
