450 years’ celebrations
It was 450 years ago that a group of our ancestors left Gomantak or present-day Goa after being harassed by the Portuguese and attempts were being made to convert them.
The Portuguese had also started destroying temples and Shri Mahalasa Narayani’s Temple at Verna also fell victim.
However, a group of our ancestors escaped to Kumta along with the idols of the Deity and these were installed in 1565 and since then Shri Mahalasa Narayani has graced all Kulavis and Bhajaks with all-round development and prosperity.
Thus, we are proudly celebrating the 450 years of existence since the idols were installed and the temple constructed.
As part of the year-long celebrations, during the present holy month of Adhika Ashadha, a Mahavishnu Yaaga is being held in the mornings and in the evenings, there will be Adhikha Purushottama Pooja and Adhika Maasa Mahatmye Pravachan. This part began on June 17, 2015 and will conclude on July 16, 2015 (except Ekadashis).
Further, the main celebrations will be held in December 2015, from Margashirsha Shukla Paksha Pratipada (12.12.2015) to Champa Shashti (17.12.2015).
On this occasion, another Mahavishnu Yaaga, Sahasra Chandi Mahayaaga, Chmpa Shashti Utsav and a host of other rituals and cultural programmes will be held.
This programme will be held in the divine presence of HH Shrimad Vidyadhiraj Teertha Sripad Vader Swamiji of Gokarna-Partagali Jeevottam Math.
All Kulavis and Bhakjaks are requested to participate in the programme along with their families and friends and receive Mother Mahalasa’s blessings.
